  1. How has the decline of the fishing industry affected the way gloucester is viewed, and its image in modern times?
Gloucester has always been one of the nations most productive fishing ports and that is what Gloucester has always been known for, but as catch numbers decline what is gloucester going to be seen as? Gloucester is still seen as a rugged fishing town filled with tough uncivilized people of the sea, gloucester is now a city carrying a false image.

  4. How have the presence of Italian and Sicilians impacted the fishing industry in Gloucester and what role do they play in it now?

In the past, when the fishing industry in Gloucester was still strong, Sicilians and Italians were able to find the work they needed to be able to support their families. With this increasing Italian work force, a stronger sense of community and loyalty was formed within this particular group of people. 5. How does Ernest Morin show his disapproval of the changing of the Fort?
Ernest Morin attacks the issue of what is going to become of the Fort in his own unique way by creating a collection of photographs documenting the lives of the people who live and work there. It's through these, as well as from letters to the Gloucester Daily Times, that people are becoming more aware of what's happening on our waterfront.

  6. Ernest Morin strongly believes that the Fort should be preserved and rezoning must come to an end. Morin argues his point in many of the articles written about him. He argues that the beauty of the Fort is an inspiration to artists. He also argues that the Fort IS America. It takes hard work to become accomplished and that is exactly how America became such a powerful country. The close knit, hard working, blue collar community is what makes the Fort special.

  8. Why is sword fishing important to our community, and should regulations on it be weakened?

Sword fishing has benefited our community for decades, though, and has helped characterize our natives through the struggles they have had to endure on the sea. Not only has sword fishing made us stronger, but it has also helped bond our community together, although sometimes through devastating circumstances. Regardless, the regulations forced upon local fishermen have caused a severe decline in both prosperity and businesses, and therefore has afflicted our community. S

  9. Should Hammond Castle continue hosting weddings and annual fairs, or should it only offer museum tours in order to preserve its architectural features?

Hammond Castle has been a medieval attraction for the people and tourists of Gloucester. Although we have no other similar attractions on the island, Hammond castle has never had a significant amount of restoration done in order to preserve its uncommon beauty. The castles events such as weddings, fairs and haunted houses, have slowly but surely worn away at its features. There are no other castles like this in Gloucester, let alone Massachusetts, so why are we letting it wear away?
